Currently, two leading international standards guide the production of epoxy-coated steel strands: notably, the ASTM.A882/A882M-02a and ISO 14655:1999 (E). These standards delineate two distinct varieties: epoxy-coated filled strands and epoxy-coated steel strands. The 2002 amendment of the ASTM standard emphasizes the superiority of epoxy-coated filled steel strands while advising against the use of plain epoxy-coated steel strands. ISO 14655:1999 (E) reflects ASTMA 882/A882M-96, retaining stringent regulatory guidelines for epoxy-coated strand products, thus ensuring premium quality across both types.
Epoxy-coated steel strands are renowned for their exceptional resistance to corrosion. Adhering to precise standards, these strands require an exact coating thickness and flawless surface integrity, free from pinholes, as mandated by both leading standards.ASTM A 882/A882M-02a mandates a coating thickness range of 0.38 -1.14mm for epoxy-coated filled strands, whereas ISO 14655:1999 (E) specifies a range of 0.40-0.90mm. For epoxy-coated strands, the thickness requirement is 0.65 -1.15mm, ensuring robust protection.
