These standards define two distinct strand types: epoxy-coated filled strands and epoxy-coated steel strands. The 2002 revision of the ASTM standard highlights the critical nature of epoxy-coated filled steel strands while advising against plain epoxy-coated steel strands. Similarly, ISO 14655:1999 (E) aligns with ASTMA 882/A882M-96, maintaining stringent guidelines for epoxy-coated strand products, ensuring excellence and reliability for both types.
Epoxy-coated steel strands stand out for their unparalleled corrosion resistance, demanding exact coating thickness and flawless surface integrity, as mandated by both standards.ASTM A 882/A882M-02a prescribes a coating thickness from 0.38 to 1.14mm for epoxy-coated filled strands, while IS0 14655:1999 (E) specifies a range of 0.40-0.90mm. For epoxy-coated strands, the necessary thickness is between 0.65 and 1.15mm.
