Currently, two leading international standards govern epoxy-coated steel strands: ASTM.A882/A882M-02a and ISO 14655:1999 (E), defining two critical types: epoxy-coated filled strands and epoxy-coated steel strands. The 2002 revision of the ASTM standard emphasizes the pivotal importance of epoxy-coated filled steel strands, advising against plain epoxy-coated steel strands. ISO 14655:1999 (E) perfectly aligns with ASTM.A 882/A882M-96, maintaining stringent guidelines for epoxy-coated strand products, ensuring superior quality and excellence across both types.
Epoxy-coated steel strands are internationally renowned for their extraordinary corrosion resistance. They demand precise coating thickness and impeccable surface integrity with zero pinholes, as mandated by both standards.ASTM A 882/A882M-02a specifies a coating thickness range of 0.38 - 1.14mm for epoxy-coated filled strands, while ISO 14655:1999 (E) requires a range of 0.40 - 0.90mm. For epoxy-coated strands, the thickness requirement is rigorously 0.65 - 1.15mm.
